Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell works as a journalist for NBC News based out of Washington D.C. Mitchell has an undergraduate degree in English from University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell joined KYW Radio and TV as a Philadelphia reporter in the year 1967. 1996, she became a reporter for WDVM-TV Washington DC, a CBS-affiliated station (then WTOP). In Washington she was named general correspondent for NBC News two year later. 1980 began her coverage of the White House. 1988 became the main congressional reporter. She was made the chief White House correspondent by NBC News, in 1992. Mitchell was a panelist and anchor of the TV program Meet the Press. She was a member of an advisory panel during the 1988 presidential debates featuring George Bush (then president) as well as Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married with Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to honor her achievements in journalism. In 2004 The Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contributions to protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell started covering the White House in 1981-1988, both during Ronald Reagan's presidency. Mitchell reported on a variety of important stories including the Iran Contra scandal, the tax reforms to the budget and the arms control. Mitchell traveled along with Reagan on numerous occasions to meet with Reagan many times for summits, and to discuss issues such as and the Iran Contra scandal.
